How to Remove an iPhone Case
Most iPhone cases come off in under a minute if you start in the right place. Here is how to remove a silicone, clear or hard case safely, and how to take off a two-layer OtterBox case.
- Take off any accessories. Remove a MagSafe wallet, pop socket or ring holder and unplug the charging cable.
- Start at a top corner. Hold the phone screen-up. With your thumb, push the top corner of the phone (next to the camera) up and out of the case. The corner is the most flexible point of any case.
- Work along the side. Once one corner is free, run your thumb down the long side to release the edge, then do the other top corner.
- Lift the phone out. Tilt the top of the phone up and slide it out towards you. Never pull on the screen protector or lever with a sharp tool.
How to remove an OtterBox Commuter case
The Commuter has two layers. Start with the phone face-up and push one top corner of the phone through the hard outer shell from the front; the shell will pop off the soft inner layer. Then peel the soft inner layer away from the phone, starting at the same corner. To put it back on, fit the phone into the inner layer first, then press the outer shell over it until each corner clicks. Shop the OtterBox Commuter for your iPhone.
How to remove a clear or hard case
Hard clear cases are stiffer, so push from the inside: press your thumb against the camera opening from the back and push the phone forward and up. If the case has flexible TPU edges, peel one corner back first. Take your time, since a stiff case can crack if you bend it too far.
How to remove a silicone case
Silicone stretches, so pull one top corner back over the edge of the phone and the rest follows. If it sticks, dry your hands first for a better grip.
